Our Story:

Our Story

Agriturismo Bartoli is spectacularly situated in the hamlet of Patrico, on the slopes of Monte Fionchi, 1340 metres (4396 feet) a.s.l. surrounded by the gentle peaks of Umbria. Thanks to its pleasant climate and enviable location, Agriturismo Bartoli is an oasis amidst the green, immersed in absolute peace and tranquility. It is an ideal place for walks, relaxing getaways, and experiences communing with nature. Boasting origins predating those of Spoleto, the hamlet was a postal way station in ancient times; other historians hypothesize that it actually dates back to 1500 B.C.

The Bartoli family already lived in Patrico in 1840, when the principal livelihood was sheep farming. At that time, other than raising livestock, the family cultivated straw and wheat and gathered truffles. In wells dug deep into the mountainside, the family stored the snows that fell in March to provide ice year-round. The family used mules to travel the eight kilometres (five miles) of mountain tracks to reach Spoleto where they sold firewood, ice, and other agricultural products.

Although the moral and religious values of our rural family still remain deeply rooted within us, today progress has simplified and transformed our life, risking the permanent disappearance of our time-honored customs and activities. From our desire to wed progress with tradition, the idea of our agriturismo was born in 1984. In 1988 we inaugurated our new family business, the Agriturismo Bartoli, the first in Umbria.
